With only two games left, Atlético now likely needs to win its remaining games against Roma and Chelsea while hoping that Qarabağ can steal some points off those teams as well in order to stay alive.

"In this season we have to dig very deep, very deep, if we want to be competitive and to fight for something important". They want to play football and they always have this desire, no matter what the situation is.

"Roma showed a hunger and desire to beat us".

El Shaarawy instantly jumped but seemed to take the surprise poke in good humour.

"We need to be ready in their stadium because it will be very, very hard".

Stephan El Shaarawy scored two impressive goals and Roma outclassed Chelsea for a surprisingly one-sided 3-0 win in the Champions League on Tuesday that prevented the visitors from advancing with two rounds still to go.

Both teams will be fully aware that a win in this game will be a crucial step towards qualification from the group. We played in the league against Arsenal and we played against Yeovil in the Checkatrade Trophy, which was a completely different test because it was against men, so you have to adapt quickly. Atletico Madrid are next with three points and Azerbaijani side Qarabag are last with two points, following a 1-1 draw in Madrid.

El Shaarawy made it 2-0 after 36 minutes when ex-Roma defender Antonio Rudiger failed to control Radja Nainggolan's long ball forward.

Kante is in line to play for Chelsea this weekend against Man United in the Premier League.

From an attacking perspective, Roma had offered little since taking the lead, but 10 minutes before the break Courtois saved brilliantly to deny El Shaarawy who had been played through by Dzeko after the ball had got away from David Luiz.

Florenzi was fortunate to escape punishment after raking his foot down the back of Hazard's heel as the attacker, who wasn't even awarded a free-kick, burst towards the penalty area, and as the half-hour mark ticked by there was no doubt we had been the better side up until that point. Roma were winners at Cobham a fortnight ago, inflicting a first competition defeat on the Blues since November 2014 and placing increased importance on our matchday four trip to the Eternal City.

The Serie A runners-up have proven solid if uninspirational in the Italian league this season coming off three straight 1-0 victories as they sit fifth.

For now, attention turns towards the Premier League and the visit of Manchester United to Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
